BVL – THE BOWLER’S CHARITY

The “Bowler’s to Veterans Link” is a national non-profit charity supporting America’s neediest veterans. BVL was founded in 1942 by a group of caring and concerned bowlers who promised “We will not forget about the sacrifices made by America’s service men and women.”

Since BVL’s inception the nation’s bowlers have raised over $33 million, all of which has been contributed to enhance the quality of life for veterans in a variety of settings – at VA Hospitals, Vet Centers, and Veterans State Homes. Minnesota bowlers actively support BVL, and last season contributed $17,100. Five Veterans’ nursing homes located in Minnesota (Fergus Falls, Hastings, Luverne, Minneapolis and Silver Bay) each received $3,000. The homes were contacted to determine specific needs of the Vets. Here are a few examples of how the money is now being used:

Electric Lift recliners; wheel chairs; walkers; veterans fishing trips; artificial putting green.

In addition $1,200 was sent to the VA Hospital at St. Cloud...to replenish their canteen fund (Vets are given money for coffee and other items available in vending machines); and to help support the Veterans’ Day ceremonies held each November 11th at the Hospital. Each year that celebration of America’s Veterans is an emotional and wonderful experience.

Because of the generosity of Minnesota’s bowlers, this past season we were also able to give $800 to the National BVL organization.

Local Associations should send their donations, large and small, to our State office. BVL needs your contributions more than ever at this critical time for our nation’s Veterans.
