Just because your State Association and the majority of the locals have merged does not mean that the charity work we have supported in the past has gone away, quite the contrary. We would like to build a stronger charity network amongst our membership and we need your help.

We are happy to announce that Judy Rimmer, of Grand Rapids and former BVL chairperson for the MWBA, has agreed to serve as charities coordinator.  Judt will head up the Charities Committee (all volunteers) and coordinate the various charities the USBC supports.  If you are interested in serving as a volunteer on this committee please let Judy or someone on the State Board know of your desire to serve.

As a matter of procedure all contributions directed to the state from the local associations will receive a thank you recognizing your donations. All local contributions will be recognized at the Annual Meeting each year. In addition, as contributions are forwarded on to BVL and the Susan G. Komen Foundation in August of each year a detailed listing of contributions received from the locals will be included, thus appropriate recognition will be given where it is due.

All monies collected for the state BVL are distributed 100% to the 5 state VA homes and the St. Cloud VA Medical Center. There is no money taken out to cover administrative or advertising costs as is typical when making contributions to other National Charities. With the conflicts going on in Afghanistan and Iraq the need to take care of our disabled veterans is growing. Please do what you can to conduct a fundraiser at your local associations in November for this very worthy cause. Our veterans deserve our support.

The month of February has been designated as Bowl for the Cure month. All money raised for this worthy cause is forwarded on to the Susan G. Komen Foundation and is used for cancer research to find a cure for breast cancer. I think it is safe to say that the majority of us know someone (loved one, family member, friend, acquaintance) who has been affected by this devastating disease. Again, please rally around this very worthwhile cause and conduct a fundraiser to assist in finding a cure.

Fundraising activities for the above charities can be as elaborate as you want (bowling tournaments, raffles, etc) or as simple as a free will donation from league bowlers and the public. Whatever you choose to do your efforts will be greatly appreciated.
