Duane has been involved in many aspects of bowling. He started as a junior bowler in 1964 and started adult league bowling in 1972 at the age of 20. He started as an assistant coach and started running the junior program at Mankato Bowl in 1980. In 1985, Duane and wife (Nancy) bought Lucky Lanes in Winnebago, MN. Duane helped start and run a junior scholarship tournament and fund for the kids in Mankato. He started a Winnebago area bowling Hall of Fame. With the help of others, Duane helped start the Mankato bowling Hall of Fame. He was master of ceremony for the first six out of seven years. Duane organized and ran many sweeper, no tap, District Legion and junior tournaments. In 1987, he started taking seniors from Winnebago and then Mankato area to the Minnesota State Senior Singles tournament. He organized this group for 20 years (before he was old enough to compete himself). He still does this yearly with 50-60 people every year. This also includes a casino stop on the way home to complete a memorable day for everyone. Even as proprietor in Winnebago, he stayed active as a bowler, league officer, and board member in Mankato. He was also a District representative to the State BPAA. Duane is proud to have helped coach and tutor everyone.
Inducted into the Mankato Hall of Fame in 2011. Inducted into the Winnebago Hall of Fame in 2002.
