Rick started bowling in youth programs in the St Cloud area in the 1950's at the age of nine. He started promoting bowling leagues at school. In high school he started working and managing an establishment in St Joseph and in 1964 formed one of the first high school bowling leagues in the state which consisted of five schools.
Rick started his ABC bowling career in 1967, became a league secretary the following year, which he held for 12 years. In 79 he started writing a bowling column for the St Cloud Times for 3 years which consisted of stories covering bowling in Stearns County. In the early 80's, he talked to bowling proprietors in the St Cloud area to sponsor a 15 -minute local bowling program to cover bowling on WJON Radio. He a wrote a bowling column for the Central Minnesota Sports, a weekly sports publication. This column covered bowling in Douglas, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Stearns, and Wright Counties. He currently is writing a column for the St Cloud Times.
In 1974 he became Association Secretary for the St Cloud Bowling Association, which later became Central Minnesota BA. he also became Association Secretary for the St Cloud YABA. He held these position for 5 seasons when he became the manager of Great River Bowl in Sartell.
In 1979 he took over a 4 lane establishment (Waite Park Lanes) which was struggling and built it up to the point where they had leagues every night. He established an afternoon and weekend youth program. Rick gave free bowling and coaching to 2 grade schools (grades 3rd - 6th) twice a week for 2 months as part of the weekly physical education class. He ran the 1st Star of North Games (Bowling) with 100 entries and again the 2nd time it was in St Cloud.
Currently at the local level he is Association Secretary for the Central Minnesota BA. At the state level, he became a Director in the 1970's, President in 2000, served on several committees, researched and developed the Hall of Fame Committee by-laws, which were accepted after two years of meetings. He is a member of the Bowling Writers of America.
