During his undergraduate years at St. Cloud State in the early 1980s, Mark London was under the impression his two areas of study, bowling and broadcast media, would never cross paths. When they did cross paths, it was the start of one of the more unique media careers the industry has seen. The self-proclaimed radio guy applied his craft to six Minnesota local cable television PBA regional finals, writing his monthly column Just Paying Attention in 1998 for a Joliet, Illinois bowling newspaper, later as a weekly column for The Bowling News of Texas since October 2012. At the same time, he penned articles for Bowlers Journal International, Bowling This Month, ABC’s Bowling Magazine, and FloBowling. London added his broadcasting skills, commentating on PBA XtraFrame, BowlTV.com, BowlStreamTV.com, and InsideBowling.com, the first to commentate on all four major live stream outlets.
For his bowling media work, London received the International Bowling Media Association (IBMA) Luby Hall of Fame award in 2023.
Minnesota bowlers London interviewed include Jean Havlish, Charlie Tapp, Matt McNiel, Amanda Vermilyea, Daron Hansen, and Brady Stearns.
The former Willmar and St. Cloud resident made his mark on the lanes as anchor bowler helping the St. Cloud State University men’s team to sectional play in 1984 for only the second time in school history, capturing the 1987 Mid-Minnesota USBC Association Tournament All Events crown, and setting the Association then-record series with an 826 in 1989. He was a steady casher in both CBA and PBA Midwest Regional events, adding a PBA Midwest Regional title in 2010.
London started his pro shop career at Great River Bowl in Sartell, later managed pro shops in the Chicago and Houston markets for 25 years. He was also named to the Suburban Windy City USBC Hall of Fame in 2006.
