Al was born in Osseo on July 22, 1925. He passed away in February of 1994, preceded in death by his wife Lorraine. Al and Lorraine had three children; son Jay and daughters, Pamela and Nancy.

In 1956, Al opened a 12 lane center, Joyner Lanes, in Osseo, later adding 12 lanes. In 1975 Al sold these lanes, and built a 12 lane center in Monticello and again added 12 more lanes shortly thereafter.

He also has two 18 hole golf courses in the area.

Al joined the BPA in 1958 and had been very active in the organization. Al's most active interests was in the legislation affecting our sport of bowling. In 1958-59 he served as the President of the Minneapolis City BPA and was the Minnesota State President in 1966-67. Continuing to serve the organization, Al was a National BPA Regional Vice President in 1974-76. On the National BPA level; Al served on many committees, such as the Equipment Products, Legislative, By-Laws and Industry Promotion.

At Joyner's Lanes, Al organized a very large Junior Bowling program. A Junior Classic league was a fixture at the lanes for more than 25 years. Al was instrumental in forming the Minneapolis Traveling League also.

Al was an avid bowler himself, always ending a season with an average in the 190-200 range. His High Series was 756, High Game 298, High Average 197, and has had many 700 series.
