Gary started bowling in 1959 at the age of 8 in Duluth. He became the first junior to roll a 700 series in Duluth and also average 195 in the 1967-68 season, which was a new record.

He has 24 association titles, which include six Minnesota State Titles: 1996, 2000 Actual & 1996, 2000 Handicap Team, 2000 & 2001 Team All Events. He has thirteen St Paul Association Titles: Actual & Handicap Team in 1995, 1997, 2000 & 2002; Actual Doubles in 1994 (1499 Tournament Record) & 1998; Handicap Doubles in 1994; Team Challenge 1994, 1999 & 2004. He has four Minneapolis District Association Tournament Titles: 1996 Actual Doubles, Team Challenge 2000, 2002 & 2003. Other titles include: Alexandria Garden Center Doubles in 1978 and Midwest Team Challenge in 1999.

He was a member of the St Paul All City 1st Team in 1996 and 2nd Team in 2000, Minneapolis 2nd Team All Stars 2000. Gary was a member of the Budweiser All Star League Championship Team and All Star Team 1998-1999 & 1st Team MSC 2001.

Individually his record includes - four 800's, eighteen 300's, & two 299's. Currently holds the St Paul High Average 240.53 (former state record) in 1999-2000. He was inducted into the CBA Hall of Fame, St Paul Hall of Fame and Minneapolis Hall of Fame.
