Hal was president of the Minneapolis District Bowling Association in 1956 and 1957. He was inducted to the Minneapolis Bowling Hall of Fame in 1966.
He started bowling in 1926 and was part of two city championships – the Normandy Hotel team in 1955 and the doubles event in 1952.
Hal was awarded the "Topper Award" by the Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce in 1953. He was a member of the Tribune Classic Board.
He was very interested in junior bowling and helped promote the program in many ways. Hal was a great promoted for the game of bowling and especially worked hard for the Minnesota State Bowling Association promoting the annual tournament.
Hal was President of the Minnesota State Bowling Association in 1961, Treasurer from 1964 – 1966, and was the state Secretary from 1967 – 1971.
