John has been a sanctioned/certified bowler in Minnesota for 54 years starting at the age of 11 bowling in a youth league at the Austin Bowl.

At the State level he was a Director for 5 years with the MBA serving on the Finance Committee all those years and chairing this committee the last 3 years.

He served on the Single Membership Organization Committee, as Chair of the MN State Transition committee and served for 3 ½ years as the first President of the MN State USBC Association.

John was the driving force that kept everything organized and together while going through the transition of 3 organizations becoming one and the formative years of the newly formed State USBC Association. John is known for his positive attitude and being a team player. He served on the MN State USBC Audit committee for 2 years, after serving as President, and most recently as chair of the Search Committee looking to fill the State Association Manager position.

At the local level John has been the Mower County USBC Association President since August 1, 2005. Previously he served as a Director of the Austin BA for 3 years, Vice President for 4 years and President for 7 years. He also was chair of the Mower County USBC Transition Team. He has been involved with the Austin youth bowling program as a coach for 16 years (Level II) and as a Board Member for 6 years. He is also a Special Olympics bowling coach (Level II) for the ARC of Mower County. He has served as a league President, league Vice President and league Secretary. John was inducted into the Austin Bowling Hall of Fame in 1998.
