Well-known as the “Buzz Saw”, Billy was the lead-off bowler for the legendary Hamm’s team of the 1930’s era that broke the National record four times (3713 high).
He won the high average in the Twin City Classic League for the first 3 years of the league’s existence with a 218, 208 and 215. His first 300 game in league competition came on February 4, 1930 and was the first 300 game shot in the St. Paul City League. He won the Tribune Classic in 1930, and was co-champion in the Men’s State Doubles in 1939. Since joining St. Paul teams, he has won or helped win the following: Team – Rocky Mountain Tournament in Denver, Midwest Tournament in Omaha (St. Francis Team), I.B.A. Tournament twice. He won the doubles in the Omaha, Fargo and I.B.A. events, singles in I.B.A, and all events in the Dakota Tourney in Fargo. He won the Northwest Singles Classic and has won 52 miscellaneous tournaments in and about the state. He had 11 300 games, 2 sanctioned.
His high series was 777 and his high average was 218 in 1933-34. He was inducted into the St. Paul Hall of Fame in 1964.
