Art Cumming, in addition to his bowling expertise, was nationally known for two other sports also. He was an outstanding fast pitch softball pitcher and one of the country's better horseshoe throwers. He is also in the Minnesota State Horseshoe Hall of Fame.

In bowling, he excelled from the age of 12, when he started at the now extinct Court Chamber lanes where his parents bowled. Cumming really started bowling at the age of 16 and progressively advanced to stronger leagues. At the age of 21, he was one of the youngest bowlers to compete in the Minneapolis City Tournament. The highlight of his career came in 1937 in the Interstate Tournament at Sioux City. Bowling across six lanes and against new pins, he bowled an 803 series on games of 270-278-255. He started stringing strikes in the 4th frame of the 1st game and rolled 18 straight strikes. He has one 300 game to his credit and a memorable one at that. It was in the Minnesota State Tournament at St. Cloud in 1945, the first perfect game in St. Cloud's history.

Cumming had more than 35 series over 700 with his high being 773. Twice he won the Minnesota State Actual All Events (1933 & 1947). Twice shared the Actual Doubles Championships (1936 & 1951) and in 1947 won the Actual Singles Title with a 687. Among his other titles included a 5th place team finish in the 1951 ABC National Championships as a member of the Murphy Truckers that totaled 3026.
