Lyle started bowling in 1950.

He won the 1979 State Actual Doubles Title. He also won 12 Local Association Titles which includes: 6 Team, 2 Doubles, 1 Singles & 3 All Events Titles.

His other tournament accomplishments included 10 titles. His composite average for 48 years of competition was 194. Lyle was inducted into the Rochester Bowling Association Hall of Fame in the Superior Performance category. His honor score totals are three 300 games.
